Freshman shortstop Dallas Bowen has quickly become a key player for Hanover Central. Her influence is both immediate and significant. Senior catcher Sienna Stilley, who is committed to Jacksonville State, speaks highly of Bowen, saying, “I choose her every single time. Whether it be a game-clinching hit or a play at short to seal the game, she’s the one I’m going to pick. Every. Single. Time.” Bowen, though a freshman, displays the confidence of a seasoned player, handling situations with poise. She is known for her hard work, talent, and being a genuine person. Her ability to brighten a room with her smile is noted as one of her greatest strengths.
Bowen’s contributions have been significant as the Wildcats, boasting a 25-6 record, prepare to face No. 7 New Palestine (24-7). They aim to win their second consecutive Class 3A state championship at Purdue’s Bittinger Stadium. Bowen is hitting .371, with six home runs, leading with four triples, five doubles, 28 RBIs, a team-high 38 runs, and 10 stolen bases. Her sixth home run, a three-run shot, kicked off the scoring in Hanover Central’s win against East Noble in a semistate final.
Coach Sam Antkiewicz praises Bowen’s arrival, highlighting her timing. His daughter, who played shortstop last year, graduated after helping the team reach the state championship game. Bowen’s fit into the team was seamless, bringing fresh energy. She works incredibly hard, has great competitive spirit, and adds value to the team.
Bowen appreciates the supportive team environment. She feels comfort knowing the team supports her, even during challenging times. She acknowledges the camaraderie and the mutual encouragement among team members.
Bowen motivates her teammates to excel. Stilley states, “Dallas is one of those teammates that inspires you to be a better person and to push yourself during practice and games. Even on her ‘off days,’ she’s still the first one to encourage you.”
Bowen’s older brothers, Drayk and Dylan, have set high standards. Drayk, a senior linebacker at Notre Dame, was a celebrated player at the high school level. Dylan, recently graduated, was a four-year starter and an Oklahoma State recruit. Bowen follows in their footsteps, and she is driven by their success. She aims to reach similar heights, aspiring to play at competitive schools in the South like Texas, Florida, or Oklahoma.
Stilley has confidence in Bowen’s potential. Although Bowen possesses all the skills needed to succeed, Stilley highlights the importance of self-belief for Bowen’s growth. Stilley takes pride in witnessing Bowen’s journey through the season.
As Bowen continues her freshman year, she aims to contribute to Hanover Central’s pursuit of success. Facing New Palestine, a team with multiple state titles, presents an exciting challenge for Bowen. The team’s unity and spirit give Bowen confidence in their chances for a successful run.
