Manager Craig Counsell had to creatively manage player rest during this period. Designating Pete Crow-Armstrong as the hitter for multiple games helped recharge the team. Boyd expressed pride in the team’s efforts, stating, It’s a tough stretch… But guys responded to the task. The rotation’s future looks promising with Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes now in the mix.

Ian Happ Rebounds

Ian Happ ended a severe slump with an impressive performance against the Royals. Previously stuck in an 0-for-22 rut, Happ hit home runs on consecutive days, finishing with five hits. This improvement is crucial as the Cubs rely on him for the season’s remaining weeks and potential playoffs. Happ’s resurgence is a hopeful sign for the team’s offense.

Miguel Amaya Embraces Opportunity

Catcher Miguel Amaya, despite limited playtime, made significant contributions. In Sunday’s win, he notched two hits, including a decisive three-run home run. Though often in the shadow of Carson Kelly, Amaya has shown he can deliver when called upon. His statistics highlight his value, with a wRC+ ranking seventh on the team and a .349 on-base percentage.
