White has faced criticism this season for allegedly not defending her players after incidents involving Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. Dakich commented on White’s approach by saying, “If a player receives a flagrant foul, you should always prioritize defending them. This is not Stephanie White’s approach, despite her claims.”
“You don’t need to see the foul. You just need to know your player was wronged and defend them,” Dakich emphasized.
During the game against the Chicago Sky, White referred to not witnessing a foul by DiJonai Carrington, which Dakich believes misses the point.
One part of White’s speech made headlines due to its dramatic conclusion: “Love will win, grace will win, humility will win, and kindness will win. I stand by them; I will always stand by them. Everybody else can go to hell.” This closing statement triggered criticism for being contradictory.
“She is the dumbest coach I’ve ever seen,” Dakich remarked. He questioned the sincerity of White’s declarations of support for her players, pointing to instances like the Alyssa Thomas situation where he feels she did not provide adequate support.
