Robert O’Neill, the former U.S. Navy SEAL credited with killing Osama bin Laden, has spoken about recent controversial social media posts from Graham Platner, a Democratic Senate candidate from Maine. These posts have sparked widespread criticism.
O’Neill addressed Platner’s remarks about a soldier wounded in combat with Taliban fighters. Platner described the soldier in negative terms, calling him a “dumb motherf—–” and suggesting he didn’t deserve to live. O’Neill condemned these comments as barbaric and contrary to the values he has always believed in.
Platner has justified his social media conduct by citing his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, O’Neill emphasized that PTSD does not excuse such behavior and suggests Platner seek therapy to address his condition.
“PTSD shouldn’t do that to you, especially if you do it again and again,” O’Neill said. “Instead, he should be seeking therapy if it’s that severe to wish harm upon American soldiers.”
Platner, a combat veteran, is also facing backlash for past comments about “American Sniper” Chris Kyle. These comments seem to stem from jealousy, according to O’Neill, reflecting a rare occurrence of professional rivalry among veterans.
O’Neill criticized Democrats in Congress for avoiding questions about Platner’s controversies. He believes Platner was chosen and groomed for political purposes, focusing on securing votes rather than addressing these issues.
“He’s been groomed for party votes,” O’Neill stated. “Current Democratic leaders are staying silent, as they prioritize party over American interests.”
Despite some dismissing Platner’s remarks as “locker room talk,” O’Neill believes these resurfaced posts demonstrate that Platner is unfit for a Senate position. O’Neill points to reports like a Nazi tattoo and violent wishes towards soldiers as evidence.
While acknowledging potential personal struggles Platner might face, O’Neill expressed a willingness to see Platner’s future actions, advocating for forgiveness and improvement. He shared his experience of making regretful remarks under the influence and quitting drinking.
Fox News Digital sought comment from Platner’s campaign about these controversies. For updates, Andrew Mark Miller, a reporter at Fox News, can be reached via social media and email.
