The Reflecting Pool in Washington is undergoing issues following its renovation ordered by former President Donald Trump. Trump has alleged that the damage to the pool is intentional, citing vandalism as the cause on his social media platform.
Trump mentioned problems with vandalism affecting the Reflecting Pool and surrounding areas. He claimed that efforts were made to damage the newly installed surface, but did not provide concrete details.
Law enforcement agencies responsible for the National Mall, including the U.S. Park Police, National Park Service and Interior Department, have not commented on the allegations.
On the recent Friday, Park Police arrested a person who was reportedly peeling paint from the pool. This action does not fully account for the algae bloom and detached paint in the pool, which Trump believes is part of a larger scheme.
Previously, large numbers “86 47” were found etched into the grass on the National Mall. Authorities are investigating whether these numbers constitute a threat to Trump, who would be the 47th president. The term “86” can imply eliminating someone.
Despite plans for a $14 million rehabilitation, the Reflecting Pool suffered an algae bloom. Federal workers used chemicals to treat the pool, but parts of the blue paint on its bottom have come off, revealing the rocky surface beneath.
