A 2025 UCLA study highlights that disadvantaged communities face a double burden: limited access to chargers and a higher likelihood of malfunctioning equipment.
Maintenance is another concern. Some areas lack mechanics skilled at servicing EVs, as highlighted by a Palm Springs resident who struggled to find service for a hybrid vehicle. They ultimately reverted to a gas-powered car due to the scarcity of knowledgeable mechanics.

“The rolling blackouts and power outages made it challenging to rely on an EV,” Krista P. noted.
