Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is close to facing a one-game suspension. On Wednesday night, she received her seventh technical foul of the season during a game against the Connecticut Sun.
As the Fever led 95-67 near the end of the third quarter, a foul was called on Olivia Nelson-Ododa. Saniya Rivers, Nelson-Ododa’s teammate, began a verbal exchange with Clark. Clark responded by pointing out the scoreboard. Officials then issued technical fouls to both players before the situation escalated.
Clark explained the incident by saying, “She said she was locking me up, so I said, ‘Scoreboard,’ and the ref didn’t like that,” as reported by ESPN. Despite the risk of a suspension from another technical foul, Clark is determined to maintain her aggressive play. “I think just continue to try to control your emotions the best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don’t think I’m going to be playing with that in the back of my head,” she stated.
Indiana secured a 123-88 victory with Clark contributing 27 points and 11 assists in 27 minutes of play. She was highly efficient, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and hitting five 3-pointers.
Currently, Clark is tied for fourth in scoring, averaging 21 points per game. She’s also second in assists, averaging 7.9 per game. This win brought Indiana’s record to 17-10, placing them fifth in the WNBA standings.
Diamond Miller led the Connecticut Sun with 15 points, but the team fell to 7-20 for the season.
