The Tampa Bay Buccaneers experienced a setback during practice on Wednesday as their second-year wide receiver, Emeka Egbuka, had to leave the field due to an injury. Egbuka managed to walk off assisted by athletic trainers, but the specific details regarding the nature and severity of his injury remain unknown.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo witnessed the incident and reported, “Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka limped off with athletic trainers. Was examined on the sideline table for a while. Hard to see exactly what’s up from where we are but he’s still on the table and hasn’t returned.” Egbuka was later spotted walking back to the sideline wearing no cleats, choosing to observe the remainder of the practice from the sidelines.
Last year, Egbuka made an impressive start to his professional career as the Buccaneers’ 19th overall pick in the draft. As a former Ohio State star, he quickly emerged as a favorite receiver for quarterback Baker Mayfield, recording 63 receptions for 938 yards and scoring six touchdowns over the entire 17-game regular season.
With experienced wide receiver Mike Evans leaving the team this offseason, Egbuka is poised to take on a more crucial role for the Buccaneers in 2026. The team is set to face the Cincinnati Bengals in their opening game of the season on September 13.
