Beatriz Hatz Wins Gold at National Championships After Love Island USA

1 week ago 0

Beatriz Hatz, a participant in the latest season of Love Island USA, recently achieved a significant victory. Although she did not win on the reality show, the two-time Paralympian, 25, secured a gold medal at the USA Track and Field Outdoor National Championships in New York City. Hatz won the T64 women’s long jump title, a triumph that comes only weeks after the series finale on July 12.

The T64 long jump category is intended for athletes with moderate movement impairment in one lower leg or who have one or both legs amputated below the knee, as explained by Lexi Global, a platform detailing para-sports rules.

At the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, Hatz showcased her skills, and she continued to excel at the recent championship. Initially trailing behind long jumper Taleah Williams, Hatz found her rhythm by the fifth round, achieving a 5.24-meter jump. She claimed the top position after the sixth round with a jump of 5.11 meters, according to ESPN.

Hatz had special supporters at the event. Fellow Season 8 cast members Sean Reifel and Amora Robinson were present to cheer her on. “Shout out Bea,” Reifel said in a video interview after the competition, referring to her as a strong competitor. Robinson also congratulated Hatz, expressing their pride.

Hatz’s accomplishment is notable, especially since she could not maintain her regular training routine while on the show. As an original Season 8 cast member, she quickly stood out for her candidness and humor regarding her limb difference. Hatz’s journey on the show ended when viewers voted to pair her partner, Gabriel, with newcomer Jen Terry by Episode 9.

In an interview with TODAY.com, Hatz explained the challenges of training during her time in the villa. “My training normally takes three to four hours on the track,” she said. “But in the villa, you have limited time and other commitments like having conversations, so I had to make my training time efficient.”

Despite these constraints, Hatz managed to keep up some of her routine. “I took my blade with me and did some training, though it wasn’t shown,” she noted. Hatz practiced long jump drills, technical work, and a tendon ligament circuit during her stay on the island.
