Artist Scott LoBaido Creates Massive Portrait of American Flag

Patriotic artist Scott LoBaido is finalizing what he considers the largest oil-on-canvas portrait of the American flag at the Great American State Fair in Washington D.C. Although known for his outspoken support of Trump, LoBaido insists the message behind the oversized flag is apolitical. He shared this sentiment with Fox News Digital while painting a 9-by-17-foot canvas at the Made in America Pavilion during the fair held in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

LoBaido, based in Staten Island, believes this could be the largest oil-painted American flag on canvas. Despite his political inclinations, LoBaido stated, “I am a political person, but that’s irrelevant from this. This flag is for everybody.”

Some paintings of Scott LoBaido were showcased at the Great American State Fair. The artist expressed concern that some individuals on the political left avoid the flag, perceiving it as a MAGA symbol. He argues that such perspectives overlook the flag’s true significance as well as his artwork’s intent.

According to LoBaido, the fair serves as a perfect example where his art supersedes political affiliation. Many Democrats visited the fair, and discussions focused solely on the flag’s meaning in celebration of the nation’s 250-year anniversary. He also challenged those who protest by desecrating the flag, underscoring that the flag symbolizes the freedoms that allow such demonstrations to occur.

LoBaido added, “That American flag protects your freedom to be what you want, do what you want, and protest what you want. That flag should always be honored.” He noted that the painting’s scale and live creation make this venture unique compared to previous flag paintings he has done.

The colossal 9-foot by 17-foot canvas represents his largest oil painting of the American flag to date. He emphasized the significance of creating and unveiling the piece during America’s 250th birthday celebration—a nod to the American flag being considered a timeless piece of art.

LoBaido anticipates an emotional unveiling on Independence Day following the final touches. He plans for the artwork to find a permanent home afterward. The Great American State Fair, dubbed Freedom 250, will feature 150 exhibits representing all U.S. states and territories on the National Mall from June 25 to July 10, 2026.

He shared that he might deliver a heartfelt statement alongside the unveiling and expressed his admiration for the Star-Spangled Banner. The painting has already garnered interest, with LoBaido suggesting it would be fitting for a prominent venue like the White House ballroom. LoBaido humorously mentioned that Trump, a collector of his paintings, “might have to open up his checkbook” for this one, noting that he allocates a portion of his sales to charity.
