Andy Cohen Defends ‘Real Housewives’ Amid Political Criticism

Bravo host Andy Cohen addressed recent criticism of the ‘The Real Housewives’ series concerning perceived political biases. During a Q&A session on his Threads account, Cohen responded to a comment about the presence of ‘MAGA women’ on the show. He clarified that the show is not political and highlighted the inclusion of diverse perspectives.

If we didn’t showcase people with different POVs there would be no show. Also it’s a show about the women and their relationships, not about politics, Cohen stated.

In recent years, several former ‘Real Housewives’ stars have spoken about facing backlash for conservative views, even when not holding those views themselves. Kelly Dodd, an ex-member of ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County,’ was removed from the series in 2021 after making controversial comments concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Dodd expressed feelings of exclusion and discrimination due to her political views. She mentioned during an appearance on a podcast that she felt victimized by cancel culture.

I feel like if you don’t believe along the same lines they do, they don’t like you… I feel like I am an outcast, Dodd shared.

Annemarie Wiley, formerly of ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,’ also claimed that her conservative views led to her exclusion from the series after leaving in 2024. She noted that despite her liberal past, her experiences on the show pushed her to reassess her political stance.

I was given a terrible edit by Bravo and I found out after the season was finished when they didn’t invite me back, that that was the reason that I was given that edit, apparently… because I was a conservative, Wiley explained.

Jill Zarin from ‘The Real Housewives of New York’ has also publicly criticized Hollywood’s lack of attention to global crises, specifically the plight of hostages during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
