In Alabama, primary elections are taking place in four of the state’s seven congressional districts. These elections are happening under a new map that benefits the Republican Party. Governor Kay Ivey postponed the primaries after the Supreme Court decision in April. This decision diluted the Voting Rights Act, enabling changes that removed one of the two districts where Black voters comprised the majority.
Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind two Republican candidates: Jerry Carl, a former congressman, and Rhett Marques, an Alabama state representative. Marques recently attended a candidate event in Dothan, Alabama.
