4 weeks ago 0

Body camera footage has documented the rescue of a baby in a vehicle stranded by floodwaters in Beeville, Texas. The incident happened as storms overwhelmed the area, rapidly turning roads perilous.

The vehicle became trapped in rising waters at a low-water crossing, about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio. According to police, a sudden downpour swept the car towards a creek.

The Beeville Police Department shared on Facebook, “Officers and firefighters responded after a vehicle entered a flooded creek crossing and began being pushed by rushing water.”

Officials noted that the situation deteriorated quickly, leaving no time to install barricades. A fire chief attempted to warn the driver, but the message didn’t reach in time.

Footage shows the water level rising fast, submerging the car’s wheels. Officers reported the car being pushed toward a creek. During the assessment, the driver screamed to a nearby officer about a baby inside the vehicle.

The officer rushed through floodwaters, opened the door, and retrieved the baby in a carriage. Another responder shielded the child from the rain with a jacket.

“Thankfully, nobody was hurt,” police assured, confirming the driver also reached safety. The incident serves as a warning about floodwaters’ dangers.

What may look passable one minute can quickly become dangerous the next,” police cautioned. “It does not take much moving water to push a vehicle off the roadway, and by the time you realize how dangerous it is, it can already be too late.

Police urge drivers to heed barricades around flooded areas, as bypassing them is both risky and illegal. They remind drivers, “No errand, shortcut, or destination is worth risking your life or your family’s safety.”
