The St. Charles Fine Art Show attracted a crowd even under cloudy skies on Saturday. Among the visitors was Debbie Kusek from Carol Stream, who shared her appreciation for art, saying, “It’s always sunny in the world of art. Any time you can get out and look at original artworks, it’s wonderful. It’s an inspiration.” Kusek admired the oil paintings at the event held during the weekend in downtown St. Charles, praising the diversity of techniques and ideas on display.

The event, organized by the St. Charles Business Alliance and its sponsors, was the 28th annual edition of the St. Charles Fine Art Show. Positioned along Riverside Avenue, between Main Street and Illinois Avenue, the show featured over 110 juried artists. They showcased a wide array of mediums, including ceramics, digital art, wood, sculpture, jewelry, glass, oil, watercolors, and photography.

Jenna Sawicki, the executive director of the St. Charles Business Alliance, explained that artists were chosen from more than 150 applicants. “Over 50% are returning artists, but we also have many new participants to keep things fresh,” she said. The event showcased a blend of traditional and modern art, reflecting trends in mixed media and digital art, alongside clay, ceramics, and watercolors.

“Our mission is to drive people into our businesses,” Sawicki stated. She highlighted that the art show not only brings visitors but coincides with specials offered by local businesses. Sawicki emphasized the importance of supporting creative work, noting, “It’s important to appreciate art and the creative process.”

Artists from various locations, such as Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, and Canada, participated in the show. The event attracted around 10,000 visitors throughout the weekend, fostering a positive relationship between the city and local businesses.

John Carman, an artist formerly from Wayne and now residing in Free Soil, Michigan, participated again in this year’s show. He remarked, “It’s one of my favorite shows because I know many people here. It’s well-organized and not overwhelming.”

St. Charles resident Evan Bierman attended the show with his daughter, Sophie, who is five years old. He found the event offered a variety of art suitable for decorating his home. As he browsed some photo prints by artist Chris Bergstrom from Omaha, Nebraska, Bierman expressed his preference for vibrant art to brighten his children’s rooms.
