Golf Highlights: Wyndham Clark’s Victory and LIV Golf’s Future

4 weeks ago 0

Wyndham Clark Ends Slump with Stellar Performance

Wyndham Clark returned to the winner’s circle in style at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Prior to this, Clark hadn’t won since February 2024 and had achieved only one top-10 finish in the past 14 months. However, his final-round score of 60 secured a three-shot victory over Scottie Scheffler and Si Woo Kim. This marked an impressive recovery for the former U.S. Open champion.

Clark’s success story spans a range of golf courses, including Quail Hollow, Los Angeles Country Club, Pebble Beach, and now TPC Craig Ranch. His ability to adapt to different course conditions highlights his versatile skills.

Clark’s strong putting performance was a key factor in his victory. He led the field in strokes gained: putting at the event, notably improving his stats since changing putters in April. This strong showing on the greens defined his outstanding round and ended his winning drought.

Tough Debut for TPC Craig Ranch

Despite undergoing a $25 million renovation aimed at challenging top players, TPC Craig Ranch saw scores far lower than intended. Clark’s winning score was 30-under, while multiple players finished 20-under or better. The course conditions, softened by heavy rainfall, and the absence of significant wind made scoring easier.

Questions arose about priorities between hosting challenging tournaments versus providing enjoyable experiences for fans and members at venues like TPC Craig Ranch.

LIV Golf Seeks New Opportunities

As Saudi Arabia plans to cut funding for LIV Golf after the 2026 season, the league seeks new investors. According to reports, LIV Golf is seeking $250 to $350 million to continue operations. Their new investment pitch centers around a global 10-event schedule, despite potential concerns over profitability and financial stability.

Upcoming events and successful past tournaments in Australia and South Africa support LIV’s investment strategy. However, reports suggest LIV may consider filing for bankruptcy, posing a challenge for investor confidence.
