Democrats Criticize DNC Over Memorial Day Post

4 weeks ago 0

Multiple Democrat representatives criticized the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Monday for a controversial Memorial Day post that was later removed.

Senator Tammy Duckworth from Illinois, a Democrat and an Army veteran, strongly condemned the post. She expressed her disapproval by stating, “It is incredibly distasteful to use our heroic dead for a political attack on Memorial Day.” Duckworth served as an Army helicopter pilot during the Iraq war and lost both her legs when her Black Hawk helicopter was hit.

Representative Jason Crow from Colorado, also a Democrat and former Army Ranger, criticized the post as well. On the social media platform X, he wrote, “If we want the moral high ground, we have to be better. I fought for our country and served with those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It’s wrong to politicize this day.” He emphasized his willingness to hold his own party accountable when necessary.

The original post from the Democrats stated, “Today we honor the American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in Trump’s war with Iran.” It included images of fallen soldiers and referenced “Trump’s war.” This post circulated widely on social media.

Criticism of the post was not limited to Democrats. Republican figures, including RNC Chair Joe Gruters, also voiced their disapproval. The RNC’s official account on X shared a screenshot of the DNC’s contentious post.

The DNC eventually replaced the disputed post with a different Memorial Day tribute that read, “This Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country and defend our freedoms.”

Senator Rick Scott from Florida called out the post and accused the Democrats of exploiting fallen soldiers for political ends. He commented, “Delete this. These men and women gave the last full measure of devotion protecting their fellow Americans from a tyrannical terrorist regime that wants to kill our people and destroy our way of life. To use them as political props on Memorial Day is just beyond the pale. It’s disgusting and unAmerican.”

The Department of War also reacted to the DNC’s post. However, the DNC did not immediately address the criticism when approached for comment by Fox News Digital.

In related news, the DNC’s recent 2024 election autopsy report has faced criticism. New York Times opinion columnist Michelle Goldberg denounced the report as “mysterious,” “anticlimactic,” and “ridiculous,” noting its lack of substantive insight.

Goldberg pointed out that the report, spanning 192 pages, failed to discuss key issues such as “Israel” and “Gaza.” It also provided little explanation for the Democratic Party’s loss of support among Black and Latino men or its failure to connect with irregular voters.
