Additionally, heavy rain is expected from the Carolinas to western Texas. In parts of southwest Texas, including Midland and Fort Stockton, large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes could occur. Recent images and videos from the Memorial Day weekend depicted flooded areas in Mississippi and cars stranded in several inches of rain in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
New Orleans is under a flood watch until 7 p.m. local time on Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms anticipated to continue into the evening. Rainfall could reach up to an inch, with some areas possibly seeing up to 2 inches.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is also under a flood watch until 11 p.m. local time Tuesday, with rainfall ranging from 0.75 inches to 1.25 inches, and isolated areas potentially receiving up to 2 inches. Both New Orleans and Atlanta might experience hourly rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches, risking flash flooding even in places not under flood watch.
More precipitation is forecast for the region throughout the week, although specific rainfall totals remain undecided.
