The New York Knicks moved one step closer to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 with a decisive 121-108 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jalen Brunson led the charge with 30 points, while Mikal Bridges contributed 22. The win leaves the Knicks one game away from securing the Eastern Conference Finals.
With passionate fans chanting, ‘Knicks in four!’ the team aims to complete their second consecutive series sweep with another win on Monday night. This victory marks the Knicks as the seventh team in NBA history to secure at least 10 straight wins during a postseason run. The Boston Celtics also achieved a 10-game winning streak on their path to the 2024 title.
New York’s victories have been commanding, with an average winning margin of 22.5 points. Karl Anthony-Towns emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, stating, ‘We have to execute at a high level in Game 4.’ He added 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists to the team’s performance.
OG Anunoby scored 21 points in a game where New York maintained the lead throughout. The Knicks made 55.8% of their shots and secured 11 three-pointers, converting 24 of 27 free throws. Despite efforts from Evan Mobley, who led Cleveland with 24 points, Donovan Mitchell with 23, and James Harden with 19, the Cavaliers fell short.
Even the appearance of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce in the audience couldn’t spark a win for Cleveland. Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson acknowledged New York’s dominant run, saying, ‘We couldn’t get to that level to combat it.’
At the end of the third quarter, New York held a 91-82 lead, stretching it further in the final quarter. Landry Shamet’s three consecutive three-pointers sealed the 105-94 scoreline. Knicks coach Mike Brown praised his players, noting their fast-paced play and defensive efforts without fouling.
The Knicks began the game strong, making their first four shots and securing a 9-1 lead within two minutes. They maintained this momentum, leading 37-27 after the first quarter and entering halftime with a 60-54 advantage. Brunson particularly shone in the third quarter, scoring six points in an 8-1 run.
Reflecting on the game, Shamet highlighted the team’s resilience against Cleveland’s efforts, saying, ‘We weathered their best punches tonight.’
