Smithsonian Museum Project Faces Setback Over Political Debate

1 month ago 0

Efforts to establish a Smithsonian museum on the National Mall faced a major setback this week. The issue arose due to Republican lawmakers’ inclusion of language concerning ‘biological women’ and the president’s authority over the museum’s location.

The proposed language indicated that the museum would be situated at a site west of the Smithsonian Castle. However, it allowed President Donald Trump the option to select an alternative location.

This political dispute centered around transgender rights and President Trump’s broader attempt to reshape Washington’s landscape. As a result, it has hampered a bipartisan initiative that spanned over a decade to construct a women’s history museum on the National Mall.
