White Sox Clinch Victory

The City Series reached its thrilling conclusion on Sunday afternoon at Rate Field. The Chicago White Sox emerged victorious over the Cubs with a dramatic 9-8 victory, thanks to a walk-off home run by catcher Edgar Quero in the 10th inning.

Despite starting the day struggling at the plate, Quero delivered a game-winning two-run homer against Cubs reliever Ryan Rolison in front of a sellout crowd of 38,608. Entering the game as a .151 hitter with just one extra-base hit this season, Quero made the most of the moment, finishing with three hits on the day.

“It feels amazing,” Quero said. “Right away, when I hit the ball, I knew it was going deep. I was just happy for me, for the team, for everybody. I was ready for that time.”

White Sox players celebrated Quero’s heroics at home plate after his first home run of the year secured a series win for the Sox, who improved to a record of 24-22.

Series Significance and Fans’ Support

The White Sox captured their first series victory against the Cubs since 2022, winning two out of the three games. Sox manager Will Venable expressed gratitude for the fan support and acknowledged the series’ importance.

“You understand the significance of the series and you want to perform well, not just to win but for our fans,” Venable said. “The energy in the building was great, and we were happy to deliver for those who came out to support us.”

Game Highlights and Big Moments

Michael Conforto had a key role for the Cubs, hitting a game-tying three-run home run in the ninth inning. Despite his efforts, the Cubs fell short, recording their third consecutive series loss.

“It was a good baseball game, we were just on the losing end of it today,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. Cubs fans watched as their team took an early lead, with Michael Busch’s home run and Alex Bregman’s infield single contributing to a 4-1 advantage.

The White Sox rallied as Miguel Vargas helped tie the game with a vital two-run double in the fifth inning. A strong eighth inning saw Tristan Peters hit a three-run home run, giving the Sox a 7-4 lead.

Final Inning Drama

The Cubs regained a temporary edge in the top of the 10th with Dansby Swanson scoring on Bregman’s grounder. However, the Sox countered when Quero stepped up in the bottom of the 10th, sealing the win with a powerful swing.

Reflecting on his game-winning effort, Quero said, “It means a lot for everybody in the clubhouse, it means a lot to win this series. I’m happy for this team.”

Quero regarded the home run as a personal milestone, equal to his major-league debut last season.
