The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued stricter guidelines for individuals at high risk of hantavirus exposure due to a recent outbreak connected to the cruise ship Hondius. The updated instructions emphasize the need for these individuals to stay home, limit contact with others, and avoid entering buildings outside their homes. Additionally, they are advised against having visitors at their residences.
Those considered high-risk must also coordinate any essential travel plans with their state or local health department. Despite these measures, some experts in infectious diseases point out that implementing such restrictions may prove challenging in practice.
