1 month ago 0

Authorities in Austin, Texas, have lifted the shelter-in-place order initially issued for south Austin after capturing two suspects connected to a series of random shootings from late Saturday to Sunday. According to an updated post by Austin police on X, two suspects are now in custody. However, one suspect remains at large in the Manor area, with more updates anticipated.

Details of the Shooting Events

Mayor Kirk Watson reported multiple shootings across the area, including incidents at two fire stations. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis described the shootings as ‘random’ and mentioned that the motive is currently unidentified. A final briefing at around 7 p.m. included Watson expressing gratitude for the collaborative effort, followed by Davis confirming the capture of both suspects.

Suspects and Their Activities

The apprehended suspects included one wanted for stealing a gun from the same store where his partner had previously committed theft. A stolen vehicle was reported before the weapon theft. Throughout the spree, authorities received 20 service calls linked to the suspects, who targeted apartment buildings and fire stations, damaging a fire truck. They eventually stole four vehicles during the spree.

Identifying the Suspects

The identities of the two suspects in custody remain undisclosed. However, police continue to search for a third suspect, described earlier as two Hispanic males in their late teens, with varying hair lengths. Information about which suspects have been apprehended is still unclear.

Authorities released descriptions of three vehicles possibly linked to the shootings: a black Honda Accord, a gold Honda, and a white Nissan Altima. Watson mentioned the suspects frequently switched vehicles as the incidents progressed.

Information on the Victims

Four people suffered gunshot wounds; one is critically injured, while three others have non-life-threatening injuries. Details about the victims and their relation to the fire stations remain unavailable.

Affected Neighborhoods

The initial shelter-in-place order encompassed a large area of south Austin, from Skyline Park to Dick Nicholas District Park. Although the order for south Austin is lifted, residents in the Manor area should remain cautious, as police continue searching for the final suspect.

Advisory for Residents

Chief Lisa Davis emphasized the need for residents to contact 911 promptly upon observing anything suspicious and advised against approaching suspected vehicles. In addition, residents should secure their vehicles, ensuring keys or key fobs are not left inside.

Police confirmed the investigation is active and ongoing, with further updates expected.
