1 month ago 0

A devastating fire erupted in a home in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of two children and two adults. The blaze started just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday at a residence located in the 6200 block of South Paulina Street, according to Chicago police.

Authorities reported that an 8-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy succumbed to their injuries at Comer Children’s Hospital. Two adults, a man and a woman, were transported to the University of Chicago Medicine with critical burns and were later confirmed dead. One of the deceased adults was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Reginald Lee Wilson, 57. Autopsies of the victims are scheduled for Thursday.

The fire left two boys, aged 14 and 16, in stable condition at Comer Children’s Hospital. No information was provided regarding the victims’ relationships.

Cadarius Wilson, a 24-year-old man, played a key role during the tragedy. He recounted how he was visiting a friend nearby and noticed the house engulfed in flames. Wilson immediately called 911 and tried to notify those inside the house. Unable to enter through a locked gate, he shouted to warn the inhabitants and neighbors.

The only thing I heard on the block was dogs barking,” Wilson said, highlighting the eerie silence of the area.

Despite the obstacles, Wilson managed to save the lives of two teenage boys. He instructed them to jump out of a window and assured them of their safety as he caught them. His presence provided comfort and reassurance to the boys until they were taken to the hospital.

Cadarius Wilson emphasized his actions were guided by compassion rather than heroism.

I was only there doing what I can and I’m grateful for the things I was able to do while I was there, he stated.

Currently, fire officials and Wentworth Area detectives are investigating the incident, which is classified as an arson investigation.
