Cuba’s Readiness for Negotiation with the U.S.

1 month ago 0

Cuba is expressing openness to modifications in both its economy and government, showing eagerness to continue negotiations with the United States. However, it accuses Washington of not engaging in talks sincerely, according to Cuba’s ambassador to the United Nations.

Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, the Cuban ambassador, shared in an interview, “Cuba is willing to discuss everything with the United States. No topic is off-limits in our dialogues—provided the discussions are based on reciprocity and equality.” He voiced concerns over recent statements from President Trump, which he suggests are not conducive to fostering a climate of dialogue and trust. “Warmongering rhetoric does not help,” he stated, highlighting concerns over perceived preparations for military aggression against Cuba.

This interview marked the first time in several years that a current Cuban government official had spoken on the record to The New York Times. Mr. Soberón Guzmán conveyed that Cuba’s decision aimed to inform the American public of its desire for peace and collaboration with the United States, despite pressure from the Trump administration.
