Troy Aikman, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current ‘Monday Night Football’ broadcaster, shared his candid thoughts on the Cowboys’ recent 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite the win, Aikman’s perspective on the team remains unchanged.
Aikman emphasized that the win should not be overstated, stating, “This is a beat-up Philadelphia team. To come in here and win tonight, let’s not get carried away.” The Eagles, already struggling with a four-game losing streak, played without their starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, due to season-ending blood clots. Additionally, Pro Bowl lineman Cam Jurgens was traded, and right tackle Lane Johnson retired. Running back Saquon Barkley, who missed previous games with a hamstring injury, exited Monday’s game early with a back injury.
“They did what you would expect them to do,” Aikman commented. “But it’ll bear itself out as we move forward.”
Aikman noted that while the Cowboys’ defense showed improvement over last season, it still allows 25.7 points per game, ranking 23rd in the NFL. The offense, on the other hand, ranks fifth, averaging 27 points per game.
The Cowboys, now holding a 3-4 record, are positioned behind the New York Giants (4-2-1) in the NFC East. Their upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals presents another chance for the Cowboys to make an impact and potentially alter Aikman’s perception.
