Indonesia is facing its most severe wildfire crisis in over ten years. The situation has been exacerbated by the El Niño weather phenomenon. Many of these fires were intentionally ignited to clear land for agriculture, particularly for palm oil production.
As a result of the thick, hazardous haze from the fires, more than 12,000 schools nationwide have been forced to shut down. The air quality poses significant health risks to the public, especially children.
Nathaniel Undas, serving as both a school principal and a photographer, has been sharing his observations of the fires through social media. His documentation provides a vivid account of the ongoing disaster and its effects on local communities.
