Amman, Jordan – Jordanian security forces apprehended three men on Monday in connection with an attack on a Greek Orthodox church. The attack resulted in the deaths of nine people and injured over two dozen others.
According to the Public Security Directorate, the arrests followed a shootout at dawn. All three suspects sustained injuries during the incident. No security personnel were harmed in the operation that took place in the Karak governorate, located south of Jordan’s capital, Amman. The area hosts a minority Christian population.
The assault occurred during a funeral at the Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hammoud. The incident took place on the previous Friday, involving three armed assailants.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and no accusations have been made against any armed groups. Jordan’s Interior Minister, Mazen Al-Faraya, confirmed the arrest of the three suspects, marking them as responsible for the attack.
“The security services have fulfilled their duties, resulting in the capture of those who carried out this terrorist act,” Al-Faraya stated in an interview with state TV Al-Mamlaka.
He further mentioned the resistance put up by the suspects during their arrest but noted that they were ultimately subdued, having suffered severe injuries.

Al-Faraya confirmed the identity of the three individuals involved shortly after the incident. The directorate stressed that “terrorism has no place among us,” and emphasized that the suspects met their “just fate.” No affiliations with Islamist militant groups were indicated in the report.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II instructed authorities to respond with “an iron fist” against those he labeled as the “outlaws of Islam” and anyone seeking to disrupt the unity of the Jordanian people.
