School Security Official Charged with Rape in Massachusetts

A school security official from Boston has been accused of raping a visitor from Ireland. Authorities discovered her unclothed near the Massachusetts State Police barracks in Martha’s Vineyard. The suspect, Edward Brown, was reportedly staying as a guest with a college friend who works as a state trooper.

During his court appearance, Brown, aged 27, asserted his innocence regarding the alleged attack on August 15. The incident reportedly happened inside the barracks. Brown allegedly met the victim at a bar named The Ritz in Oak Bluffs.

According to Assistant District Attorney Courtney Scalice, police received a call just past midnight. They discovered the woman in distress. She reported meeting a man at The Ritz and then losing consciousness.

The victim alleged the man, identified by his race and attire, pursued her within the bar. When she regained consciousness, she found herself face down and unclothed.

She told investigators she managed to escape after requesting water from her attacker. Upon fleeing, she encountered assistance on the road a short time later.

Police confirmed her injuries included bruises on her legs and a noticeable red mark on her neck. Prosecutors linked Brown to the crime scene through a bouncer from the bar and his connection to state troopers, particularly Ryan Costello.

The investigation revealed Brown’s inconsistent statements regarding the night’s events. Initially, he denied the victim was with him, later asserting she had left by herself, and subsequently claiming they never entered the barracks at all.

Additional investigation steps included reviewing Brown’s ride-sharing history. Officers contacted an Uber driver who described transporting a man matching Brown’s description and an intoxicated young-looking White woman to the barracks.

A month after the incident, Boston police arrested Brown, working in school security, at Boston Latin Academy. Authorities also discovered a suspicious substance, believed to be cocaine, on him.

The Massachusetts State Police conducted their internal review following the incident. They have since stopped allowing guests to stay in police housing on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.

At his arraignment, Brown was released on a $10,000 bail with conditions to avoid contact with the victim and witnesses. His next court date is set for December 11.

If found guilty, Brown could face up to 20 years in prison and would be required to register as a sex offender.
