Florida Triumphs Over Texas in Upset Victory

2 hours ago 0

The Florida Gators kicked off their 2026 season with a strong performance, achieving a 4-0 record after defeating then-No. 4 Ole Miss in Week 4. However, the team faced setbacks with two consecutive losses. Despite these challenges, Florida secured a thrilling 30-27 victory against Texas, thanks to a late game sack-fumble by Arch Manning.

Recent encounters with Florida have been challenging for Texas, evidenced by a 29-21 loss in October 2025. That season, Florida concluded with a 4-8 record. The victory on Saturday added to the Gators’ momentum.

For Texas, the past eight days have been difficult. The Longhorns endured a significant loss to Oklahoma, which cost them their top ranking. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian emphasized the need to reassess every aspect of the team following consecutive defeats by struggling SEC opponents.

Everything’s going to be evaluated Sarkisian stated, indicating potential changes, including at the quarterback position. While not faulting Manning entirely, Sarkisian acknowledged imperfections in the team’s offensive performance.

In the matchup against Florida, Texas managed only 50 offensive snaps, the lowest under Sarkisian’s leadership. Manning finished the game with 173 passing yards and one touchdown, hindered by five sacks.

This recent defeat marks a notable moment for Texas. According to ESPN Research, they became just the third team since 1936 to reach the No. 1 AP poll ranking before losing consecutive games to unranked opponents. Florida’s standout performance highlighted this setback.

Obviously, I’m extremely disappointed Sarkisian expressed, reflecting on the game where Texas excelled only in the opening quarter. He acknowledged that much improvement is needed and that his own play-calling would be part of the evaluation process.

Texas will face Ole Miss in Austin next Saturday as they seek to recover. The upcoming game presents an opportunity for Texas to regroup and strategize effectively.
