Florida Senate Candidate Angie Nixon Calls for Legal Action Against Opponent Ashley Moody

2 hours ago 0

Florida Democratic Senate candidate, Angie Nixon, stated her desire for her Republican opponent, U.S. Senator Ashley Moody, to face legal consequences during an interview on CNN. Nixon accused Moody of dishonesty and misconduct, alleging that she diverted $10 million intended for the Medicaid program for children into political funds for Governor Ron DeSantis. Nixon criticized Moody’s actions, emphasizing the negative impact on healthcare, suggesting that Moody voted against healthcare benefits for over 440,000 Floridians.

Nixon declared her opposition to abolishing prisons and defunding the police, arguing that her goal is to see Moody face punishment. She affirmed her position when questioned by the host Kasie Hunt, stating she would want legal action due to Moody’s alleged deeds.

In addressing the allegations further, Nixon mentioned her intentions to launch an investigation if elected, highlighting what she perceives as widespread corruption. She referenced legal decisions by courts appointed by DeSantis as indicative of systemic issues, expressing anger over the potential impact on children’s wellbeing due to the withheld funds.

Nixon accused Moody of being a passive supporter of former President Donald Trump and stressed the need for effective representation in Washington, D.C. Her remarks about investigating Moody drew attention, though Moody’s team did not provide immediate comments on Nixon’s allegations.

Responding to Nixon’s accusations, RNC spokeswoman Emma Hall challenged Nixon’s intentions, raising concerns about her proposed policies and political allegiance. Hall questioned Nixon’s plans, given her stance on criminal justice reforms.

Nixon, affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), secured her candidacy by winning the Democratic primary against Alexander Vindman. Despite her association with the DSA, Nixon has denied being a socialist, emphasizing her support for public housing, healthcare, assistance for veterans, and political reform.

Ashley Moody has denied any wrongdoing relating to the Hope Florida controversy and has not faced charges. The dispute continues amid broader political tensions.
