Kushner’s Diplomatic Role and Travels Under Scrutiny

1 hour ago 0

Jared Kushner has been scrutinized for his extensive travel and diplomatic role during his time as President Trump’s envoy. A map by Newsweek details his travels, sparking controversy and a lawsuit by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). CREW accused him of not being properly vetted for his position.

Kushner, alongside Steve Witkoff, serves as a key diplomatic figure, though neither is Senate-confirmed. The lawsuit targets their significant roles without proper confirmation or financial disclosure filings.

The suit states: “Kushner holds a continuing position and wields significant government authority without having been confirmed by the Senate and without having filed a single financial disclosure.”

CREW argues that Kushner’s influence in foreign affairs demands transparency and adherence to Senate approval, as required by the Constitution’s Appointments Clause. They stress the Ethics in Government Act mandates financial transparency for such positions, whether compensated or not.

Chad Mizelle, Kushner’s attorney, refuted the lawsuit’s claims, stating the service complies with ethics requirements and that Kushner funds his own expenses.

White House Defense

The White House defended Kushner’s position, highlighting the historical use of private envoys for sensitive international issues. A spokesperson dismissed CREW as driven by disdain for Trump and highlighted Kushner’s volunteer status and success in diplomatic enterprises.
