ABC News Corrects Report on Trump Sons’ Investments

2 hours ago 0

ABC News recently issued corrections to a report about the business dealings of Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. The initial report, focusing on their investments and links to Pentagon contracts, faced scrutiny for accuracy before it was removed. It has since been republished with changes.

The original report was released earlier in the week under the title “Trump sons’ investments have won billions in Pentagon contracts since his election.” This report was taken offline in less than a day without public explanation. The updated article now carries the title “New shipyard announced amid earlier Democratic concerns about potential conflicts of interest.” An editor’s note confirms errors related to company investment descriptions, government contracts, and event timelines. These issues were pinpointed and corrected after further investigation.

Media figures criticized ABC News for pulling the report without explanation. This action followed objections from Alexa Henning, a spokesperson for 1789 Capital. She challenged the initial report’s depiction of the firm’s activities, particularly concerning a supposed ‘major stake’ in Anduril. Henning elaborated that raising funds is distinct from an investment by the firm.

In the original report, it was inaccurately claimed that 1789 Capital contributed a $2.5 billion investment to Anduril. The updated version clarifies that this figure represents Anduril’s overall fundraising for the year. Moreover, it was specified that Trump Jr. is not part of the committee making investment decisions within the firm, despite being a listed partner.

The report’s removal drew attention from various individuals, including Trump Jr., who mocked the action on social media. Bill Ackman, CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, voiced discontent, urging ABC News to adhere to journalistic ethics by acknowledging such errors promptly and publicly.

ABC News has not immediately commented further on the revisions. Fox News Digital continues to request insights from involved parties, including ABC News, Trump Jr., and 1789 Capital.
