During his address at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, President Donald Trump humorously remarked about his inability to sleep on airplanes. He shared with attendees that he stays awake, scanning for potential threats.
I don’t sleep on planes. I don’t like sleeping on planes,Trump commented, eliciting laughter from the audience. You know, I like looking out the window, watching for missiles and enemies, actually.
The annual event, which brings together bipartisan lawmakers, business leaders, and international dignitaries, focuses on the themes of faith and prayer for the country. This marks the sixth time President Trump has participated since his administration began in 2017.
Consistent with his practice, Trump has been known to remain awake while traveling on Air Force One. He lightheartedly mentioned his vigilance regarding missiles while recounting his initial meeting with Daniel “Raizin” Caine, now serving as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Their discussion centered on strategies to defeat ISIS during Trump’s first term.
Expanding Military Strength and Diplomatic Negotiations
President Trump also credited the military’s increased strength during his second term. He highlighted achievements such as the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and significant actions against Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Trump recounted a conversation with Caine during a prolonged flight, wherein Caine offered a space for Trump to rest—an offer Trump declined to instead strategize against ISIS.
I said, ‘What’s your first name?’ ‘Raizin, sir. They call me Raizin.’ And I say, ‘what the hell kind of a name is that?’he jokingly added.
Reiterating America’s military presence, Trump declared, He’s [Caine] brutal. Just ask Venezuela. Ask Iran. They’re negotiating now. They don’t want to. They don’t want us to hit them.
Reflecting on Faith and Economic Policies
In discussing economic policies, Trump criticized past administrations for permitting other countries to levy tariffs while restricting the U.S. from doing the same. He expressed confidence in a favorable Supreme Court decision which, he claimed, would further enhance the economy by enabling the collection of substantial revenue.
The president also touched on his administration’s dedication to protecting religious freedom. He emphasized the founding principles of the nation, asserting, They declared that all of us are made free and equal by the hand of our Creator. A lot of presidents refuse to say that… I say it, that we are endowed with our sacred rights to life and liberty, not by government, but by God Almighty himself.
