Dallas Cowboys Triumph Over Houston Texans, Dak Prescott Nears Career Milestone

2 hours ago 0

The Dallas Cowboys secured a 34-30 victory against the Houston Texans, bouncing back from a recent defeat by the Baltimore Ravens. A key figure in this win was quarterback Dak Prescott, who connected effectively with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb concluded the game with 189 receiving yards and one touchdown. Prescott completed 32 out of 45 passes, amassing 335 yards and delivering a touchdown pass to Lamb.

With this victory, Prescott tied the legendary Roger Staubach for the second-most wins in the franchise’s history. Both Prescott and Staubach now have 85 wins. Staubach, who achieved this milestone earlier, also won two Super Bowls with Dallas and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. These are accomplishments Prescott aspires to achieve during his NFL career.

Prescott is still pursuing the Cowboys’ all-time wins leader, Troy Aikman. Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl champion, achieved 94 wins before retiring from his career with Dallas and was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Prescott needs nine more victories to match Aikman and ten to surpass his record. Given his current season pace, unless hindered by injury, Prescott may set this record this season. However, the team’s performance in upcoming games remains critical. The Cowboys currently hold a 2-2 record following Sunday’s win.

The Cowboys face a quick turnaround, hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Oct. 8. Tampa Bay is relying on rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels due to Baker Mayfield’s thumb injury recovery. After defeating Houston, Prescott emphasized the need to maintain momentum, stating, “We gotta get back tomorrow at it. It’s gonna be a quick turnaround. Use this momentum, use what we did in the second half, and just keep going.”

The schedule intensifies post-Thursday, with road games against the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, before returning home on Nov. 1 to face the Arizona Cardinals. The Packers, now 2-2, secured a win on Sunday, while the Eagles, also 2-2, lost to the Los Angeles Rams. The Cardinals enter with a 1-3 record following a loss to the New York Giants.

To tie the all-time wins record, the Cowboys need 11 more victories this season; 12 wins would set Prescott at the top for the franchise. If this season does not present the opportunity, a healthy Prescott is projected to achieve this record in the 2027 season.
