The publication stated, “On Nov. 3, Michiganders should vote to send ABDUL EL-SAYED to the U.S. Senate.” Newsweek sought comments from both El-Sayed and Rogers’ campaigns, reaching out via their respective email and online contact methods outside regular business hours on Monday.
Michigan stands as a crucial battleground in the midterm elections with the Democratic Party aiming to gain control of the Senate. Losing the seat vacated by Democratic Senator Gary Peters would complicate their efforts.
The Detroit Free Press historically supported Democratic contenders in the last two Michigan U.S. Senate races. In its editorial, the paper argued, “Everything you’ve heard about Michigan’s U.S. Senate race is true: An extremist is asking voters to send him to Washington, masking an agenda far out of step with Michigan’s mainstream under the pretense of normalcy. If elected, this man would urge America down a dark path, changing the shape of our nation, perhaps irrevocably. But that man is not Abdul El-Sayed.”
