Counterterrorism police detained the suspects near the base in Gloucestershire. Initially held under Britain’s Explosives Act, they now face terrorism charges. RAF Fairford serves as a principal hub for American strategic bombers in Europe.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that authorities had been monitoring the suspects prior to their arrest. He mentioned possible cooperation with Scotland Yard and noted the joint efforts of various law enforcement and intelligence agencies. The investigation is probing potential links to Iran.

“We had them under investigation,” Trump told reporters. “They were looking to do big damage.”

Morgan Murphy, a former White House official, indicated that both British and American authorities are leading the investigation. She stressed the importance of tracking every possible lead if connections to Tehran emerge.
