Aaron Donald has ended his retirement to rejoin the Los Angeles Rams, partnering with Myles Garrett on the defensive line. The Rams confirmed the 35-year-old Donald’s return following discussions, preparations, and intensive workouts.
Donald, one of the greatest defensive players of his time, spent ten seasons with the Rams. During his career, he received numerous accolades including three AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, ten Pro Bowl selections, eight All-Pro selections, and a Super Bowl victory. He retired in March 2024 but decided to return after the Rams acquired Garrett, adding strength to their defense.
Garrett, a former competitor from the Cleveland Browns, and Donald have dominated the AP Defensive Player of the Year awards in recent years. Their collaboration aims to enhance the Rams’ defensive line as the team seeks another NFL title under coach Sean McVay. The addition of cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson from Kansas City further boosts their defense.
Donald’s decision to return influences his eligibility for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which would have been possible in 2029. However, his focus lies in capturing another championship while playing alongside Garrett and promising talents Byron Young, Kobie Turner, and Braden Fiske.
Donald made this choice while considering both personal and professional opportunities, underscoring his commitment to contributing significantly to the Rams’ efforts.
