On Saturday afternoon, passengers on a Green Line train heading to Forest Park were evacuated due to a wheel misalignment. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) reported that the issue occurred when the train approached Harlem/Lake station and passed through a track switch that had not fully aligned. This caused the front and rear train wheels to be positioned on separate track segments.
Despite the malfunction, the situation did not result in a derailment, and all train wheels remained securely on the tracks. To manage the transport disruption, buses were arranged to cover affected areas while maintenance crews worked to restore normal Green Line operations.
The Oak Park Fire Department assisted by ensuring a safe evacuation process for the passengers on the affected train. At this point, the CTA has not provided additional details regarding train delays or any station closures. Meanwhile, the Village of Oak Park has yet to comment on the incident.
