Giants Honor 9/11 Anniversary with MetLife Stadium Tribute

Before the New York Giants faced the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, MetLife Stadium hosted a tribute marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. This pregame ceremony paid homage to victims and first responders.

Fans entering the stadium encountered the FDNY’s Ladder 343 truck and a World Trade Center steel beam provided by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Two columns of light, reminiscent of the World Trade Center’s ‘Tribute in Light,’ brightened the night sky.

The event featured a national anthem performance by NYPD and FDNY members. Players, coaches, and season-ticket holders unfolded a 100-yard American flag across the field. Giants players Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers observed the fireworks prior to their match against the Cowboys.

A ‘Tribute in Light’ appeared on the field in memory of 9/11. New York City first responders formed a welcoming gauntlet for the Giants during introductions. Both team rosters wore special NYPD, FDNY, and PAPD hats on the sideline, along with ‘Never Forget’ shirts during warm-ups.

The Palumbo family, honoring their fallen FDNY patriarch, participated as honorary captains for the coin toss. A video tribute showcased images of 9/11 casualties during a moment of silence. NYPD members led the Giants onto the field, and team legends joined responders for the ‘Go Big Blue’ chant.

The tribute carried particular importance for new Giants coach John Harbaugh, formerly of the Baltimore Ravens. ‘It’s about heroes running toward danger,’ Harbaugh remarked. ‘Being in New York, honoring those heroes, means everything. We honor them through effort.’

With Harbaugh leading, the Giants aspire to improve their standing in the NFC East. Players and staff, including Harbaugh and Jaxson Dart, stood on the sidelines as service members saluted the flag during the anthem, highlighting the solemnity of the occasion.
