What to Expect from the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are set to air Monday night. Mariska Hargitay, known for her role in Law & Order: SVU, will host the event. The ceremony will be broadcast live on NBC and Peacock, starting at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT. A pre-show and live coverage will also begin on E! at 5 p.m. ET, 2 p.m. PT.

Creative Arts Emmys Update

This year, the Television Academy expanded the Creative Arts Emmys into a two-night event. It now highlights areas such as casting, guest acting roles, game shows, documentaries, and behind-the-scenes crafts. Rob Reiner received a posthumous Emmy for his guest role in The Bear. Hargitay herself won two awards for her documentary titled My Mom Jayne.

Categories and Nominations

The main event will feature 19 awards. These awards will include categories for the best comedy series, drama series, as well as best actor and actress in each. Notable nominees for top comedy series include Hacks, Abbott Elementary, and The Bear. Newcomers Widow’s Bay and Margo’s Got Money Troubles are also in the running. On the drama front, last year’s winner The Pitt competes with Pluribus, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, among others.

Several actors from The Pitt earned their first nominations. Additionally, Dale Dickey and Kate O’Flynn received nominations for their roles in Widow’s Bay. A full list of nominees is available for those interested.

Additional Highlights

Noah Kahan is set to perform Bridge Over Troubled Water during the In Memoriam segment of the ceremony. The list of presenters includes notable names like Alan Cumming, Sally Field, Jon Hamm, Marcello Hernández, Niecy Nash-Betts, Keke Palmer, Amy Poehler, Florence Pugh, Rachel Sennott, and Zendaya.
