Netanyahu Discusses U.S.-Israel Alliance Amid Criticism From Emanuel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently spoke with Jacqui Heinrich to emphasize the strong alliance between the United States and Israel. Netanyahu also expressed unease about rising antisemitic sentiments among younger Americans and stressed the historical solidarity between both nations.

Meanwhile, Rahm Emanuel, a potential Democratic presidential candidate, has voiced his concerns about the current state of the U.S.-Israel relationship. Emanuel, who has been an advocate for Israel, stated that the alliance “cannot stand or survive as it’s been.” His remarks came amid the ongoing military operations in Gaza against Hamas.

Emanuel argued for a reevaluation of the alliance, suggesting major changes. He emphasized that unconditional U.S. support should end, urging Israel to enact reforms to maintain strong ties. During his address at Tel Aviv University, Emanuel underscored America’s silence over Israel’s domestic politics as detrimental.

American support for Israel has seen notable declines, particularly among Democrats. In a recent poll, nearly half of Democrats labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide” and advocated for halting U.S. military aid. Emanuel suggested exploring new approaches to peace, advocating for a “23-state solution” involving the collaboration of 21 Arab nations.

Emanuel also proposed sanctioning Israelis attacking Palestinian civilians and property, and advised against U.S. defense subsidies to Israel. He framed these ideas as practical steps to rejuvenate the U.S.-Israel alliance and find a middle ground in the polarized debate.

Netanyahu, who has previously criticized Emanuel, had not responded to the speech at the time of this report. Emanuel continues to explore a potential presidential run, visiting key primary states like New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina.
