Trump Urges Ukrainian President to Cease Attacks on Russian Refineries

President Donald Trump, during his visit to Ireland, called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop strikes on Russian refineries. According to Trump, this action has led to a diesel shortage. Speaking at the Irish Open at his golf course in Doonbeg, Trump addressed reporters questioning his recent discussions with world leaders, including Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

“Mr. Zelensky needs to stop targeting diesel fuel supplies in Russia,” Trump stated. “He should pursue other targets.”

Ukrainian long-range strikes have significantly affected Russia’s oil and gas sector, which Kyiv argues sustains the war effort against it. As these matters unfold, Russia and Ukraine continue experiencing drone attack exchanges. On Sunday, local officials in Russia reported two deaths in the Tatarstan region due to these strikes.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian reports highlighted Russian drone strikes on the Black Sea port of Odesa and a fire near a Polish border crossing. Russia has escalated its aerial assault using ballistic missiles and drones, aiming to weaken Ukraine’s power infrastructure before winter.

According to the office of Rustam Minnikhanov, head of the region, Ukrainian drones attacked Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, claiming two lives and injuring fourteen. The incident involved a drone hitting a tree near a parked vehicle. Nizhnekamsk houses prominent oil refineries and petrochemical plants. Though Mayor Radmir Belyaev acknowledged a fire at a city facility, he withheld specific details.

The drone offensives have led to fuel rationing across Russia, a major oil exporter. Ukraine continues its strikes on strategic sites across Russia, targeting oil facilities. One such attack occurred at an oil refinery in Sloviansk-on-Kuban, Krasnodar, sparking a massive fire. The strike injured three individuals and damaged infrastructure, as confirmed by Krasnodar authorities.

Russia’s defense ministry reported the downing of 389 Ukrainian drones during the previous night, including those over Tatarstan and other Russian regions.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed Russia’s willingness to resume peace talks in the coming months, potentially involving Ukraine and the U.S. “We aren’t excluding the possibility, with October being a potential timeframe,” Peskov commented.

In recent diplomatic efforts, U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff met with Putin in Moscow and subsequently with Zelenskyy in Kyiv. Despite ongoing negotiations, fundamental disagreements on territorial issues persist between Moscow and Kyiv. Kushner emphasized that “territory remains the central issue.” He added, “Our role is to propose solutions, balancing Ukraine’s aspirations with a resolution from Russia.”
