The T-Rex burger challenge at Wendy’s requires participants to finish the towering nine-patty cheeseburger in just nine minutes. Success earns participants a T-shirt and a special prize. This unique promotion caught attention on Reddit when a sign was posted in early September that read, “Think you can take down the T-Rex? Prove it.”

Reddit users expressed varied opinions about this massive burger. Many criticized it for the high-calorie count and potential health risks, with comments like “Gross. Dumb.” and “The prize is high cholesterol and clogged arteries.” Others, however, were enthusiastic about attempting the challenge, seeing it as a formidable yet worthwhile test.

Lauren Manaker, a dietitian from South Carolina, shared insights into the burger’s dietary implications. She emphasized that consuming such a substantial, processed meal can lead to discomfort due to high levels of sodium, saturated fats, and calories. Manaker advises those interested to approach this novelty indulgence by sharing it, eating slowly, and balancing the rest of their diet with plenty of water, fruits, vegetables, and nutritious foods.

According to an employee from the Edmond location, the promotion is set to expand to Wendy’s restaurants across Oklahoma starting September 10. The special prize mentioned includes a voucher for a free meal. The challenge excludes the requirement to finish accompanying fries and drink.

The T-Rex burger has an interesting history. It originally emerged in the mid-2000s as a joke in Sports Illustrated. Its popularity grew, leading people to attempt ordering it at Wendy’s locations. The Canadian city of Brandon, Manitoba, saw one franchise offering the burger, eventually attracting corporate attention, which halted its sale in 2013. Despite this, enthusiasts found ways to recreate the burger as a secret menu item, ordering a Dave’s Triple with six additional patties.
