Antitrust Settlement Leads to Egg Distribution

Texas food banks are set to receive over 1.7 million free eggs, with an additional 5.3 million to follow. This distribution results from an antitrust settlement with egg producers Cal-Maine Foods, Centrum/Versova, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the initiative, stemming from allegations that these companies conspired to inflate prices between 2022 and 2025.

Settlement Details

Under the agreement, over 7 million eggs will be donated to Texas food banks, and the companies will pay $3.3 million to participating states. Ken Paxton emphasized his commitment to helping Texans access affordable food and reduce prices.

Distribution and Coordination

Feeding Texas, the state’s largest hunger-relief organization, is managing egg distribution across seventeen food banks. The Houston Food Bank will receive the largest allocation at 1,544,400 eggs. Other food banks in Austin, San Antonio, and more will also participate.
