Diplomatic Efforts in Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict

U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv on Sunday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Their visit followed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, aiming to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Zelenskyy expressed Ukraine’s readiness for discussions, stating on social media that the country seeks a peaceful resolution. He emphasized the need for security guarantees and a dignified postwar peace. “Our proposals are ready,” Zelenskyy noted, urging a coordinated and realistic approach to negotiations.

Ukraine has always been and will remain constructive. We are interested in bringing the end of the war closer.

The meeting in Moscow lasted over three hours, and while no breakthroughs were announced, Putin’s adviser described it as constructive. Both sides plan to announce substantive steps soon, according to a U.S. official, who also anticipated productive meetings in Kyiv.

This diplomatic effort occurs as the U.S. tries to revive peace initiatives that had stalled. The focus had shifted towards tensions involving Iran. Despite ongoing differences over territory, Ukraine remains firm in its stance against withdrawing from contested regions.

During the Moscow discussions, the U.S. delegation received comprehensive battlefield assessments. Economic issues and potential projects between Russia and America were also covered in detail.

President Trump has expressed optimism about the peace plan, having sent Witkoff and Kushner to explore the possibility of progress in these negotiations. He mentioned their skills as negotiators and saw potential for a peaceful solution.

While negotiations take place, reports of drone and missile attacks from both Ukraine and Russia persist, though a pause in strikes on capitals was agreed upon during the talks.
