Jackson Koivun Joins U.S. Team for 2023 Presidents Cup

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Jackson Koivun has quickly made a name for himself. On Tuesday, he secured a spot on the U.S. team for the Presidents Cup. This comes just three months after his departure from Auburn. Koivun is among two new faces on an American team that hasn’t tasted defeat in 28 years.

At 21, Koivun won the 3M Open in his third professional event and made it to the PGA Tour postseason in only five tournaments. He follows in the footsteps of Jordan Spieth, becoming the first since Spieth in 2013 to play in the Presidents Cup without beginning the year with a tour card.

U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker also chose Jacob Bridgeman, the winner at Riviera this year. Snedeker decided not to pick Ryan Gerard, ranked No. 22 globally, who had a strong performance at the Tour Championship, finishing third.

International captain Geoff Ogilvy opted for two Canadians, Corey Conners and Nick Taylor, along with Ryo Hisatsune. This selection marks the first time since 1998 that the International team includes two players from Japan, with Hideki Matsuyama already securing one of the automatic spots.

The Presidents Cup is scheduled for September 24-27 at Medinah Country Club. This venue has undergone complete renovation by Ogilvy’s Australian golf course design firm.
