According to the Commerce Department, July saw the highest monthly trade deficit in goods since March 2025. This spike occurred before last year’s announcement by President Donald Trump regarding large-scale tariffs.
The imposed tariffs targeted products from a wide range of countries. Despite their intention to address the trade deficit, tariffs have not proven effective in reducing it.
