Matt Gogel, a player on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, received a six-month suspension for betting on PGA Tour events. The PGA Tour organization announced his suspension for violating its integrity program which prohibits wagering on sanctioned events.
In a released statement, Gogel explained that he unknowingly placed small recreational bets in 2024. He clarified that these wagers did not involve regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events, or any tournament where he participated. Gogel stated, “I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake, and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.” His suspension starts on Sunday and ends on February 22, 2027.
The PGA Tour reported that Gogel did not bet on tournaments he participated in. This case follows similar incidents; in 2023, Vince India and Jake Staiano were suspended for betting on PGA Tour competitions.
Gogel, aged 55, has one PGA Tour win to his name from the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2002. He transitioned to a career in broadcasting with The Golf Channel and CBS Sports before joining the PGA Tour Champions at age 50. Currently, Gogel ranks 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup points race.
