Rep. Al Green Files New Impeachment Resolution Against Trump

Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, has renewed his impeachment efforts against President Donald Trump. On Monday, he filed a new resolution aimed at holding Trump accountable.

According to Green’s document, Trump poses a significant threat to the United States’ democratic principles and its Constitution. Green claims Trump has violated the Constitution by not faithfully executing his presidential duties and failing to preserve and protect the Constitution.

The resolution accuses Trump of misusing presidential powers by treating United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as secretive, unaccountable forces. The document alleges that these agencies have engaged in assaults and unjustified killings of civilians, such as Renée Good and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, without accountability.

“Our country and the lives of people within it are at risk,” the resolution states.

Green’s accusations include claims of ICE and CBP normalizing unjust actions and contributing to an authoritarian regime. Despite this, the White House remains critical of Green’s stance.

Lauren Bis, a White House spokeswoman, criticized the resolution, stating, “This type of garbage contributes to an increase in assaults against law enforcement. ICE and CBP officers risk their lives to arrest dangerous criminals.” She further expressed that these efforts have led to a substantial decrease in violent crime.

Fox News Digital sought feedback from the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and CBP. However, Green’s resolution faces challenges due to the Republican majority in Congress, making its success unlikely.

In a letter to Trump, Green acknowledged potential resistance, writing, “I am aware that many will say, ‘The House won’t impeach, and if it did, the Senate won’t convict.’” He contended that unsuccessful impeachment efforts still reflect congressional disapproval and vigilance over presidential actions.

Green has previously pursued impeachment against Trump during his presidency. Recently, he experienced a primary runoff loss to fellow Democrat Rep. Christian Menefee.

Historically, the House impeached Trump twice during his initial term; neither case resulted in a Senate conviction. Notably, the Senate addressed the second impeachment after Trump’s presidency.
