2026 Midterm Elections: Key Races Highlighted

2 hours ago 0

Bill Hemmer, an anchor from ‘America’s Newsroom,’ discussed the 2026 midterm power rankings with contributor Karl Rove. Rove identified four critical Senate races to watch in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, and Ohio. He also mentioned 16 House seats considered toss-ups and analyzed the upcoming Michigan Democratic primary on August 4, featuring progressive Abdul El-Sayed against establishment candidate Haley Stevens.

Wyoming’s Political Shift

Wyoming’s Republican Secretary of State, Chuck Gray, secured the GOP nomination for the state’s at-large U.S. House seat. This move comes as Rep. Harriet Hageman runs for the U.S. Senate. Gray emerged from a crowded primary, positioning himself as the likely representative for the conservative state in Congress. He, a Trump-aligned conservative, faced off against candidates such as businessman Steve Friess and Reid Rasner.

Rep. Harriet Hageman, from Wyoming, spoke at the CPAC DC conference on February 22, 2025, in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Hageman’s decision to pursue a Senate seat left her House seat open. She initially gained attention in 2022 by defeating former Rep. Liz Cheney in a high-profile primary. The current elections have resulted in multiple open races, including the governorship, Senate, and House seats, a situation not seen in over thirty years.

Election Dynamics in Wyoming

The race to replace Hageman attracted numerous Republican candidates, making it the most expensive primary race on Wyoming’s ballot. Neither Trump nor Hageman provided endorsements, leaving candidates vying for the same conservative electorate. In contrast, Trump endorsed Hageman for the Senate and backed state Superintendent Megan Degenfelder for governor.

The Republican nominee is expected to win in the general election, given Wyoming’s strong Republican lean. Trump won the state by a significant margin of nearly 46 percentage points in 2024, his largest in any state.

Wyoming has only elected one Democrat to statewide office in over three decades. Republicans maintain control over every statewide elected office and dominate both chambers of the state Legislature.
